Album sales are down, no doubt about that, but from a sheer number of units sold music sales are up. I can also state that if you compare
TuneCore Artist music sales to what Nielsen Soundscan reports in regards to TuneCore Artists, Nielsen numbers are way off. We have the actual
statements from Apple etc, and the money paid out that ties into those statements. Nielsen numbers simply do not reflect what has sold. They are
wrong. Period, dead stop. But where the heck else is the Village Voice supposed to go to get info? (not to mention Nielsen numbers excludes the
184 billion paid spins that SoundExchange has counted and paid out on since 2006 – yes, these are their actual numbers) frankly, these articles piss
me off as they do a disservice to the artists that are achieving success by a metric that is different than what Neilsen defines as success – but as
Neilsen was the industry go to standard, those “square peg artists” not fitting into the “round holes” of Nielsen are being delegitimized A lot of you
keep asking TuneCore to be the voice and make changes on behalf of its Artists – be it to add Ska as a Genre, get MySpace to pay more etc. A lot of
